REACH

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is the EU regulation that aims to protect human health and the environment from risks from chemicals. It came into force in June 2007.

Even businesses that wouldn’t normally think of themselves as being involved with chemicals can be affected by it. Many businesses rely on chemicals in some way without realising it.

Do you make chemicals?
Do you buy anything from outside Europe?
Do you use chemicals in your business?

If you answer ‘Yes’ to any of these questions, you need to find out more about REACH and what it means.

This leaflet provides an introduction to REACH.

More detailed information can be found at http://www.hse.gov.uk/reach/index.htm

North East REACH Ambassador

As a part of increasing the awareness of the REACH regulations and the risks for business in the North East, Phil Hollowood has been appointed as REACH Ambassador within North East England, under a scheme funded by One NorthEast, the Regional Development Agency and delivered by NEPIC (North East Process Industry Cluster). This provides access to REACHReady which is a nationwide advisory service linking the expertise of many companies throughout the UK to affected businesses.  The North East Reach Ambassador provides free help and advice for companies that might have concerns or uncertainties as to how the regulations may affect their business and what actions are required. He is available to companies across all sectors throughout the North East and can be contacted at philhollowood.reachready@nepic.co.uk.
